What is capoeira?
Capoeira is a body-game, known for its flowing acrobatics and kicks, as well as its intricate partner dialogue, switching between cooperation and confrontation.
It is part of the rich legacy of Afro-Brazilian culture, created in resistance to colonialism and slavery. Today, capoeira is practiced all over the world and has been recognized by UNESCO as part of humanity's intangible cultural heritage.
It's also a great way to get fit, have fun, and make friends!

Our approch
We all have a body, so that's where we start.
While capoeira is much more than just fancy moves, we view physicality as a good entrypoint for beginners. We use the Movement Rituals methodology to build a solid base for capoeira, developing strength, mobility, coordination, proprioception, and creativity. The method
Our classes are based on the four pillars of conditioning, technique, play, and ritual. The aim is to inspire curiosity and exploration, empowering students to develop their own relationship with the art over time. Our principles

No. Coming to training is how you get fit. Just start.
Do I need prior experience?
No. We offer classes for people both with and without experience.
What language is the class in?
English, with German and Portuguese translation available as needed.
How do I book a class?
Class registration is done via the TU Unisport system, administered by Berlin Technical University. If you are not part of the Berlin university community, please get in touch before registering and we will assist you. You do not have to be a student to join, but the system is a little complicated.
What should I bring?
Water, your training clothes, and enthusiasm.
You are free to wear any clothes you feel comfortable in, but please wear long pants (no shorts). You may train barefoot or with flat-heeled indoor shoes.
Is capoeira for me? It seems really hard.
Capoeira is for everyone.
It is hard, but not because of who you are. Capoeira is a highly diverse artform, involving dancing, fighting, acrobatics, singing, playing instruments, improvisation, history, and so much more. It's challenging for everyone. Failing in interesting ways is how we learn.
How long will it take for me to get good?
The bad news: There is no fast way to get good at capoeira. The good news: The process is a lot of fun. Enjoy it.
If you train regularly, there's no way not to improve. Consistency is key.
What else should I know before starting?
Please arrive early. Class will start on time.
Expect to be challenged and work hard. Beginners' training does not mean easy training. It means hard training — for beginners. You'll likely be confused in your first class and sore the next day. That's normal. Keep going.
